Right as we are born we begin to learn how to walk by following a slow process. Even when we fall we do not think about quitting yet getting back up and keep moving forward. The mindset of a young infant child develops through the people that the individual comes into contact with. The outside people who enter his or her life start to talk the individual out of achieving their dreams because they do not want to see the individual fail or believe it is impossible. Let me leave it at this that all the bullshit from other people is their own fears and insecurities. Never let anyone talk you out of something that you want to achieve.
The infant child does not think once about quitting because it is too hard. Their natural reaction is to get back up on their two feet and try again. They succeed at walking because they do not think about quitting! They then want to run.
We are eager at those young phases of infancy to learn new skills to get us happiness and make our parents feel proud. However, as we get older the negative people in life then come into the picture. These are the dream killers telling you that you cannot achieve this goal, you’ll never amount to anything, or it is difficult to accomplish. Maybe it’s the counselor at school saying you can’t get into that college, or the coach saying that prodigies only make it to professional sports. You see somewhere along in life we run into what I like to call the energy drainers. They talk you out of your dreams and goals. It’s a dangerous game because if you do not have the self-awareness you can fall into the prison cell of believing the nonsense. Instead, some get stuck in their ways and develop a fixed mindset. Instead of being eager to learn on a daily basis the individual then listens to that loser teacher or negative counselor. Reality is they’ve never achieved anything in their life besides give advice to students. There are plenty of millionaires who went against the grain and achieved a high level of success because they had an internal tick.
The best mindset that the wealthy have developed is a growth mindset. They are daily learners. They are always expanding their minds to see how they can be better and obtain more knowledge. Jim Rohn says it best, “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” The problem is that too many people are dead at such a young age. They stop learning, stop growing and settle for mediocrity.
A growth mindset keeps you focused each day and determined to learn more. Lifelong learners are always absorbing knowledge. They have their brain as a sponge so they can obtain as much information as possible. It’s all about absorbing the right knowledge and not useless knowledge. Be wise in whatever you are reading. If it is adding value to your life, then continue reading if not move on. The great such as Warren Buffet and Mark Cuban spend a large portion of their day reading. Buffet says, “I probably spend five or six hours a day reading.” Anyone can learn how to read so remove the excuses.
These tips below will help you feed your growth mindset:
- Model Successful People
One thing our education systems do not teach us, unfortunately, is how to make money. It’s amazing how we spend about 50k a year yet they do not teach us how to make money. The professors are teaching from the textbooks and counselors are talking you out of the dreams you want to achieve. It’s a broken system. The best way is to cut the learning curve in half and seek out people who have already achieved what you want. There’s a high probability that someone else has already achieved the goals you are trying to hit. Ask them how they did, learn from them, study their success, and outwork them.
- Strengthen your weaknesses.
It’s one thing to keep strengthening what you are good at but the wisdom here is in sharpening your weaknesses. This forces you to get outside your comfort zone. If you want to soar you cannot have anything weighing you down.
If you’re looking to increase your level of success dive into knowledge. Obtain as much knowledge as you can because it will allow you to grow and develop new ideas from others who have achieved high levels of success. By actively seeking knowledge from other successful people it keeps your horizons open. I like the saying the more you learn the more you earn. Growth comes when you are constantly learning each and every single day. Become obsessed with learning. If you want success to feed your mind with the proper knowledge. Just like you go to the gym for your body, exercise your mind through books. Reading increases your awareness even if you are doing it 20 minutes a day. “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” –Zig Ziglar
