12 steps to breaking smartphone addiction
You see there are plenty of benefits towards having a cell phone but it can lead to poor addictions if you allow it to. If you are constantly checking social media apps, suffering from comparison, and spending endless time on your smartphone then you can fall into the category of addiction. Try going 30 days without checking your social media accounts and see if you can last.
Checking your cell phone before you go to bed and when you first wake up in the morning can play a devastating role on your life. What you do at the end of the day takes a toll on your success for tomorrow. If you are addicted to checking your phone at night and in the morning let’s start the year right by incorporating some new healthy habits. Like anything else, it has its pros and cons to everything. Here are some statistics about smartphone users:
-the average person checks her phone 110 times per day
-61 percent of people sleep with their phone turned on, by their bed
-people who are constantly connected feel more anxiety, which can lead to other mental health issues
If you are struggling with the negatives that come from SmartPhones here are some symptoms:
- You wake up and first thing in the morning you check your phone.
If you are waking up first thing in the morning and checking your phone then you are setting yourself up for failure.
- Texting- while driving
This is a major problem when you are behind the wheel and using your phone. If you find yourself constantly going on your phone when driving then put your phone in a place where you will not use it.
- Turn off Notifications: Do you really need to sign up for notifications… No unless it is a great page to follow. Limit yourself from distractions. The less pop ups the more focus you will have in your life.
- Awareness: Pay attention to everything around you. The only way to be truly aware of your situation is when your mind is clear of any garbage. So if you are constantly checking your phone then put it on silent.
- Leave it at home when out to dinner
The worst thing you can do is be disruptive when out at dinner. If you are checking your phone while at dinner you are being disruptive to those around you. The best part of the day can be spending quality time with your loved ones and how can this be done when your phone is out. Put your phone away and pay attention to those closest to you.
- Put your phone away before bed
There’s no need for you to have your phone with you when you’re about to go to bed. Do not take your phone with you before you get some sleep. The more you are distracted to your phone then your mind will be set on it as you sleep. Create quality time by removing the cell phone.
- Take a cycle from Iphone checking
Sometimes the best thing to do is to completely detox from using the phone altogether. Take 30 days off from all functions on the phone. You’ll see how amazing the benefits are when you avoid your cell phone. If you constantly feel attached to it, then a complete detox from it would be the best benefit for you.
- Take control over your cellphone
Addiction takes over when one loses complete power over their ability to control their instincts. Take charge for your life and do not let your cell phone control you.
- Set goals on your phone
Instead of mindlessly picking up your phone to use it, set your goals on your phone so it will be adding value and helping you contribute towards your success. Be conscious about what it is that you are doing.
- Kick out comparison
Why is there a large percentage of Millennials suffering from anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues? I am no doctor, but I can surely attest for the need to try so hard to fit in and be accepted by their peers. Comparing yourself to other people and focusing on what they’re doing with their lives takes away what’s important from your own life. Don’t beat yourself up either if you get caught in the cycle of doing this. Take back control and limit it going forward.
The cell phone can be a great benefit to your life like anything else if you use it wisely but be aware of the downsides to it as well. Try these tips out in your life and I hope they are able to bring more success in your life.
