“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”-Aristotle
We all are striving to step into our greatness for the upcoming year but what keeps us going in regards to our goals are our habits. We are creatures of habit. What you do repeatedly will determine where you will end up. The man that got to the top of the mountain top did not just land there. They worked their asses off and formulated habits of success along the way. Whether it’s getting up every single day early at the same time and being disciplined throughout the course of the day without getting distracted easily. Or it was forming daily meditation into their life starting off with only 5 minutes and working up to 30 minutes a day. Habits are not quick fixes as it takes time to replace an old one. I’ve seen it all throughout college excessive partying, eating junk food, and drama. What should be occurring in those four years is transforming your life to become your best self by enforcing discipline and structure into your life.
Without a crazy amount of self-discipline, success will be out of reach. Discipline is the forge amongst all greatness. Consistency certainly pays off with discipline enforced into your life. Here are some habits to include for the upcoming year and be aware of: negative self-talk, late nights out, junk food, alcohol, lack of physical exercise, eating out, television, excessive time spent on social media, not budgeting your finances, and the list goes on. With awareness, you are able to pull yourself out of our negative world and choose to create a different path. You can choose to live like an animal with poor habits or decide you want something more from life. Research has shown that it takes 21 days minimum to form a new habit. This comes from replacing an old habit with a new one. If you do not have any awareness you will realize that you’ll be that hamster on the wheel spinning over and over again without any forward momentum. Getting in a routine can have its benefits or be a downfall. If your routine is full of poor habits then you will find yourself digging a deeper hole. It’s a lot harder to teach an old dog new tricks so break any poor habits while you are still young.
You must have awareness in order to fully notice your daily habits. Record what you do on a daily basis and journal what you consistently do. If you find yourself not getting anywhere then change is a must! If you are afraid of change then that is a poor habit in of itself as you must let go of any negative thinking. Choose to step into your greatness! Forget the past and what other people have said about you. Do not let any negativity from others get inside your head, get that shit out of there and have a strong belief in yourself. Put yourself first and eliminate anyone in your life that is holding you back. Once you start creating momentum in your life and you start changing you will notice that the old habits will disappear slowly. The number one habit to change is of quitting. The ones who have achieved a high level of success do not QUIT! It takes no effort to quit and throw in the towel when the tough gets going. Persistence is what separates the ones who go above and beyond. There will be times when the going will get hard I am not going to lie and say that you will not face tough times. Tough times do not last but tough people do. When things get tough as they will when you set yourself some big goals turn on your willpower and dig deep inside to push you through the obstacles. The inner strength comes from facing adversity head on and refusing to back down. Failure is a result of inaction. Take action and have no fear about what the outcome will be. You cannot control the outcome but you do have control over the effort you put in. No matter what you do give it everything you’ve got and you’ll have no regrets. The winners in life keep going when they are kicked and life has taken a toll on them. It’s easy to call it and go out to the bars, take that pill, not face problems or challenges. We are living in a weak, watered down society where it is much easier to settle for less than go through the obstacle. Cowards run and keep running away. You owe it to yourself to take life on by the bootstraps and commit yourself to never quit.
Successful people rise above obstacles and challenges when they are faced with them. You gain strength by facing obstacles each day. Wisdom comes through overcoming challenges and learning from failures not giving up. When you are dealt with a bad hand go all in on yourself and win!
